One of my other passions besides food..... is fashion! This is a special post to show you where most of the cooking happens, in my beautiful home and in my fabulous outfits. Here is a closer look into the life of the Bethany Jane (aka Benny).
In November 2011 I bought my first home on a quiet street in central Victoria, BC. It’s an adorable 1920’s home and of course one of the key things I wanted was a great kitchen for cooking and a south facing deck for entertaining. This house is a dream come true and one day in the first week of owning the house I was picking apples for making pie and decided to name my house “Lucy”. She is beautiful, cozy, and cute. My friend Jodi came over in the Fall to experiment with some photos and we had so much fun! She has been a great source of inspiration in updating my wardrobe and having me be more courageous in what I wear. Check out her fashion Blog for some inspiration www.day2daywear.com
I love my kitchen as it’s functional, bright and it is definitely where I spend the most of my time. I listen to CBC or put on some of my favourite music (Ben Howard, Stars, The National, Alicia Keys, Joe Purdy, Band of Horses, John Butler Trio, Sarah Harmer and Bon Iver). This is my happy place where all the troubles in the world disappear... when I start cooking. It has beautiful real wood cabinets and I can’t live without my Kitchen Aid food processor!
My bedroom is my place of peace; I have a huge closet to hold my collection of vintage dresses. I like collecting my fashion from all over... some pieces from thrift stores, sales, consignment. My friends tease that I can find shopping anywhere, even in the middle of an industrial area, or driving through a tiny little town!
My all time favourite animal print shoes!!
Here is Eva Luna. I got her as a rescue cat when I was studying at McGill University in Montreal. She has been on planes, trains and automobiles with me over the years. She is a constant in my life and we have had many adventures and challenges together.
My living room is a place to relax, put my feet up and also where I do most of the writing for my blog. I love to light a fire and some candles and get cozy here. I am very fortunate to have many beautiful pieces of furniture that I have inherited from my Grandma and Great Aunt Elinor. I have a beautiful solid wood kitchen table, some beautiful serving dishes and carved chair that make my home have some great history.
Much like my cooking, my fashion style is a mix of old and new, comfortable and funky. I love to wear vintage dresses with fun accessories or mix up a more modern piece with thrift store cowboy boots.
